Jake joined the North Texas Longhorns Baseball Club in th fall of 2011, which coincided with the opening of Stolen Bases. Coach Self, alond with Devon Mize, will head the high school baseball program for the Longhorns.
Coach Self and Mize have worked together with the McKinney Marshals and the D-Bat Mustangs for 5 of the past 6 years. Together, htey have compiled a record of 125-48 and won several tournaments along the way, including the Best of the Southwest Pastime Tournament at Oklahoma State, Burkburnett and the Pastime Airhogs Tournament in Grand Prairie twice.
Coach Self graduated from Aubrey High School in 1997, and then earned his Business Administration and Exercise Science degree from Austin College. While at AC, Coach Self played Right Field and Pitcher for the Roos. He also spent many of his evenings giving private instruction at the Red River Ballyard.
After graduating, Jake moved to Lewisville, and still lives in nearby Flower Mound. He works as an Accounting Manager at Liquid Environmental Solutions. So, coaching youth baseball is what helps keep him sane!
Coach Self spent 2 years with the McKinney Marshals, and then joined D-Bat when they merged with the Dallas Mustangs, where he had been for the past 3 years. He has also coached in the Metro Scout League for the past 2 seasons, and has put together and coached several teams for Upperclass Showcase events, such as the JR Classic in Peoria, AZ and Perfect Game. He also has continued to give private instruction for both hitting and pitching.
Coach Self and Coach Mize view their summers as chances to grow young men, as well as ballplayers. They both came to realize eventually that these is more in life than baseball, so they try to teach the value of being a solid yound man, while winning a few games and having some fun in the process.
Today, Jake lives with his wife, Lauren, in Flower Mound, Texas. They have been blessed by God to be expecting their first child early in 2012! They enjoy their friends, the Dallas Mavericks (only sport she likes!), playing with their 2 Boxers and Great Dane, and spending time on their family ranch riding horses and 4 wheelers.
